I got a call from my agent today, saying that he had submitted me for a role in “SCREAMERS 2″, but then a revised breakdown came out, saying that the actor had to be comfortable with nudity above the waist. ( i looked up the screamers series, it’s some scifi thing…that i obviously haven’t watched, but will hop down to rogers and rent right now )*EDIT: I just called both D-video and Rogers Video, and neither of them have the original “Screamers” in stock or even in their computer systems…END EDIT*
Okay. I’m pretty comfortable with my body. VFS has done that to me. Tasteful sensuality in some deep heartwrenching life changing drama, maybe. Apparently Screamers the original was good? That was back in the 90’s though…
It’s listed on Casting Workbook as a “Cable Feature”.
I could be missing out, and that sucks, but I said no.
I don’t know if this is how I want to start my career.
Thoughts, anybody? Has anybody watched the original movie? What did you think?
As long as it’s paid work, and union rates, I’d say go for it. You can’t afford to be picky at the start of your career and I say that as an actor who struggled for five years after drama school and got nowhere. Nobody who knows anything about the business would criticise you for taking paid work. It may not be art but you want a career, right? Will it really matter in 60 years when you’re old, grey and wrinkled? Or in 200 years time, when everyone who ever knew you will be dead?
The original movie was a post apocalyptic thriller about a breed of subterranean killing machines that where created by humans to help end some big war (the kind to end all wars sort of deal). But now the war is over and all of these Screamers are left over to decay. Some still obey certain factions but most have gone rogue, fashioning their own form of robot evolution, and have started killing human beings. The robots get their name from the loud whirring sound they make as they accelerate underground in preparation for the “leaping kill” they are famous for (please note the leaping kills involve tiny saws and necks).
All in all, it was a good sci-fi romp with lots of blood and various types of Screamers. Some had even evolved to the point where they could look like humans. I saw it when I was younger and wouldn’t mind seeing it again, if only to revel in how obviously bad it probably was.
But work is work and the more you get your name out there the better. Acting is hard and roles are even harder. You could always start up an internet show like Cute With Chris. He only has a camera, a desk, and some plastic horses and he’s doing just fine. Either way, good luck!
did you wind up doing the film. i designed the robots, oddly enough.
No I didn’t. I chose not to do the audition. Neat about the robots though!!
Beverly, your blog is showing up in Google for Screamers 2 – so I stumbled here in an attempt to learn more about the movie’s release. I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival, however, I know you didn’t choose it – but still want to wish you the best of luck in your career (you look beautiful, and seem very intelligent – so don’t give up!).
